« Gold of Ethiopia » fait suite à « In Quest of Sheba’s Mines” dans le fait que l’auteur retourne en Ethiopia par le Kenya et retrouve son ami Martin Wider. Comme ce dernier n’est pas mentionné dans le récit précédent, on pourrait avancer l’hypothèse que Martin Wider et Campbell ne font qu’un. Dans tous les cas, ils rejoignent ensemble Tulu Wallel après maintes péripéties qui, soit dit en passant, occupent trois-quarts du texte. Avant le point final, Hayter aura eu le temps d’explorer les mines, passer par Addis Abeba avant de retourner en Angleterre, revenir en Ethiopie retrouver un Martin Wider mourant.
