Undated circa 1910, the author retired from the Imperial Service in 1903. I was born on the 29th February, 1856, in the British cantonement at baroda, the capital of the Gaekwar’s territory in Gujarat, Bombay Presidency. Shortly after my birth, my father’s sword-orderly, Private Raghoo, in accordance with the customary treatment of male children of noble descent, employed an astrologer to prepare my horoscope. Some forty years later I have no fault to find with its predictions, many of which have been fulfilled to my great advantage and welfare.
