Born on a farm in Circleville in Central Texas in 1909, Ruby Neubauer helped raise one sister and six brothers when she was 15, after her mother’s death. She worked around the medical profession until at the age of 29 she received her Diploma as an R.N. at Garfield Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C. She returned to Taylor, Texas working as office nurse, supervisor of an 8 doctor clinic, and eventually, administrator of a 75-bed hospital. In 1950, she was chosen Business Woman of the Year in Taylor and in 1957 she was elected Fellow of the Amerian College of Hospital Administrators. Feeling a need to do more for her Lord, in 1966, at the age of 57, she applied for and was accepted to be a medical missionary for the American Lutheran Church in Ethiopia. She was commissioned on June 25, 1967 and served until August, 1973, the last two and one-half years as Acting Medical Director of the Medical Program in Wollo Province. Since retiring, she has devoted much of her time to lecturing on her missionary work. Her free time is spent on gardening, hand work, and community activities.
