Berghaus was a German geographer best known for his cartographic work. His Physikalischer Atlas ran for four volumes from 1850-52, and was continued by Petermanns Geographische Mitteilungen. This issue of the work contains Joseph Dalton Hooker's 'Forschungen im östlichen Himalayah' based on his letter to A. von Humboldt, with an accompanying map. This issue also contains two articles by Charles Beke on Abyssinia (one with map), two articles by the Schlagintweits on the Alps, and a notice concerning Kilimandjaro.
